Hello Bump: Tan Maternity Portrait

Pregnancy is like the beginning of all things
wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.

Sutji and I go way back. Back when singing 'Majulah Singapura' was a daily routine, when uniforms were the norm, and when $2-a-day pocket money is enough to get you a full meal at the school canteen. She was a year my junior in secondary school.

This gorgeous soon-to-be mother-of-two is someone who understands completely how I feel about the constant moving around - uprooting and setting roots, leaving friends and family and creating new bonds. We share a very similar story, despite spending our formative years in Singapore, we were but foreigners - she from Indonesia, and I, Malaysia; moved to Australia for uni - she in Melbourne, I, Perth; and finally, settling down in Malaysia - she after getting married to a Malaysian.

When she got in touch with me for a family shoot, I was honoured. The hour flew by as we caught up quickly with each other about life. It was also my first time meeting the beautiful cheeky chocolate loving little Miss H. I cannot wait to see number 2, who will be making his debut next month. If he looks anything like his older sister, I'm sure he will be a handsome little tyke, primed to set all the ladies hearts aflutter.

Celebrating Love: Adrian & Pei Hwa

Grow old along with me,
The best is yet to be.
- Browning

Adrian and Pei Hwa met as housemen when they first began their careers as doctors. After a whirlwind year of courtship, he proposed (in a hot air balloon! so completely romantic), and they got hitched a year later.

She's a self-professed type-A personality who plans way in advance. On the other hand, he is easy going, random and comical. Together, they complement each other. She becomes a lot more relaxed and chill when he is around; and he appreciates her planning and finds her very endearing.

Pei Hwa contacted me for a session to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary. They wanted something casual, simple and genuinely them, as they enjoyed each other's company. Their love and complete adoration for each other shone through, and I had such a wonderful time photographing and celebrating together with them.

After one year of marriage, this is what they shared about each other:

About Adrian:
He makes me feel loved when he accepts me as I am, despite my shortcomings. He makes me feel loved because he is willing to make changes, to come out of his shell, making me the happiest person.

About Pei Hwa:
I count myself one of the luckiest guys because of her. She is there for me all the time. She is so caring and has a wonderful personality. She is definitely my perfect life companion.

You light up my world, you give me hope to carry on
You light up my days, and fill my nights with song.

Through our email conversations, mommy and daddy mentioned that their favourite thing about baby G is when he smiles. I didn't know how much, till I met him. And this little baby boy really smiles, very very easily.

I just had to call his name, he would look at me with those beautiful eyes, and give me a goofy smile. He really is a spot of sunshine

A new baby is like the beginning of all things,
wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities
- Eda J Leshan

Cherubic 5-month old baby C was infectious smiles and awesome baby chubbiness. This little one is very inquisitive, as her eyes roam to take in the world around her. When something catches her eye, she would fix a very focused stare at it, trying to figure it out, as if it is the most important thing in the world, before moving on to something else which catches her fancy.

This beautiful family will be one I remember for a very long time. It was where I saw grace in action and learned that I should always double and triple check my gear. I often pack my gears the night before, and take it for granted that everything is in there, when I grab and go the next day. Halfway through the session, I realised to my horror that my extra camera battery pack was left at home! To cut the long story short (which involved heaps of driving around like a madwoman looking for a substitute battery at 8.30am in the morning), I made my apologies, even offering to reimburse them for the session. To my pleasant surprise, they offered to reschedule instead, without showing any sign of annoyance. #gratefulforcoolclients

Grass, dirt, mozzies and an occasional monkey, I just had to share some images from the session I had this morning. Miriam, a friend of mine is someone who works magic with her fingers, by creating toys and stuff, from repurposed fabric/even paper (I hope I got that right). She is also one of the people behind the TTDI edible garden. It is thus normal that her gorgeous children, Little O (4 yrs) and Baby N (5 mths) are so well adjusted to nature. Halfway through the session, I had to peel grass away from Baby N's teeny tiny fingers. It was really a special morning, as I got to spend time with this family, before they fly back home.

A baby makes LOVE stronger,
the days shorter,
the nights longer,
savings smaller,
and a home HAPPIER

Kim (the cook extraordinaire at Evil Lunchr, and fabulous yummymummy blogger) and I were colleagues, right until she popped! Little L is the cutest and friendlist tyke, who is so very generous with his smiles and very easily amused.

Thank you for sharing a morning in the park with me babe xx.

G'day Australia 2015

Travelling is something which I'm happiest doing (coming in a close second to photography). If you asked me earlier this year, if there were any travel plans back to Australia. Chances are, I would have said 'No, perhaps next year'.

It's thus funny how God works, that I find myself, travelling not once, but twice to Australia (all in a span of 3 months)!

If you would like me to photograph you or your families, I've got limited sessions (weekdays only, as weekends are booked) available. Interested? Get in touch!

Children are a Gift of God
Psalms 127:3

Love is something that I love celebrating, and strikes a deep chord in my heart. I tear a little when I see, the loving exchange between a daddy and his little girl before he walks her down the aisle. My heart misses a beat when the groom claps eyes on his bride for the first time and cannot take his eyes off her; the moment they make their forever pledge. I get butterflies in my tummy when a couple share their hopes and dreams, as they wait patiently for their little one  to say: "Hello World"; and the moment baby is born, how they are just firmly wrapped around baby's little fingers.

Cheryl and Robert are dear friends of ours, who got married a couple of months after us. So when Cheryl shared that she was pregnant, I was over-the-moon elated for them. I also knew immediately that I want to photograph them, cause they were just tremendously beautiful people, both inside and out. This series of photograph, was taken in their gorgeous new home.

When Cheryl gave birth, I remembered being in the vicinity of the hospital, and going over to say hello to the less than a day old baby C. She was the tiniest little perfect human being, and you could tell she had her whole family smitten.

Fast forward six/seven months, we finally managed to have a family portrait session.  By then baby was a sweet smiley little girl. #theygrowupwaytoofast!

Family Portraits: Z is One-derful One!
I knew when I met you,
an adventure was about to happen
- Winnie the Pooh

A serious little one was this just turned one year old. His smiles, though given so very sparingly, can melt hearts, as it lights up his face with mischief. Bubbles, walking, reading and playing with his toys were just some of his very favourite things.

And then there were 3: Keng Baby Portraits
Cuddles, kisses, snuggles and love
- that's what little girls are made of!

A lot of the clients I photograph, are mostly first time parents, adjusting to a newborn, while juggling a very busy work schedule. Pi Ying and Keng are one of the most chilled parents I've seen. I guess with both being doctors, they knew how to handle babies with the ease of someone experienced.

Pi Ying first contacted me while still doing her confinement, in her hometown of Kuala Lipis. She wanted to coincide the session with her baby's month-old vaccination. It was during the time when Pahang (together with some other states) was hit very badly with floods. We were really thankful when it receded, and the session could go on as planned.
